Margo Mot is a Brussels-based filmmaker. Balancing between documentary and fiction, her work often explores the tension between the natural and the constructed. Recurring themes include distance and proximity in the digital age and our relationship to (public) spaces. By interweaving the imagined and the tangible, she likes to reveal hidden social constructions within a playful, often staged universe. Her short films, De Vlakte, Too Far Too Close and Noman, have been shown at international film festivals such as Brussels Short Film Festival (BE), Zoom Zbliżenia (POL), Santorini Short Film Festival (GR), PinX Filmfestival (BE) and International Film Festival Assen (NL).
Since graduating from KASK in 2017, Margo has worked as a director, screenwriter, and editor on various projects. Alongside her personal work as a filmmaker, she also collaborates with various organizations, including FOMU, Toestand vzw, SAM vzw, and Danspunt. In addition, she creates visuals for artistic projects and performers such as Aili, Bombataz and Martha Moore (music); Anouk Friedli and Anna Calier (theater); and Lisa Vereertbrugghen (dance).
Today, Margo is working on a new short fiction film, Hallo Liebe, produced by Dagvorm Films and Rayuela Productions, while simultaneously developing her first mid-length documentary, Not A Morning Person, a project selected and supported by SIC (Sound Image Culture). Besides filmmaking, Margo is an active musician with her band, Another Dancer.
